HSNCA has been running for over 12 years. In that time, many of our members who started training in Muay Thai and boxing have moved on to training at professional gyms. We have working relationships with Assassins Gym (https://www.facebook.com/p/Assassins-Muay-Thai-100057160672025/?locale=en_GB), Thaitanium (https://thai-tanium.com/), Kings Boxing (https://www.leicestermedia.online/post/kingsgym) and Leicester Shootfighters (https://www.facebook.com/LeicesterMMA/). Our professional trainers come from these gyms and volunteer their time to support our members.
We eliminate the barriers to training by offering a similar experience many would gain from attending a commercial gym whilst supporting members to maintain their cultural identity and reducing participation costs. Our members fully appreciate the value of attending the classes, which is a key reason why we have kept our current numbers.
We are very much still a donation-based club and haven't lost the family-orientated culture we started with. With our locality being very multicultural, the club has been a safe haven for students to come in and learn martial arts and make new friends, breaking down any barriers that may have existed. We continuously evaluate ourselves to better serve the Leicester community and its changing needs. For example, with knife crime sadly on the rise, we recently held a 'Lives not Knives' event in conjunction with Leicestershire Police and other partners.
As a combat academy run on the principles of Sikhism and a supporter of British values, we embrace the concept of equal opportunities and promote non-discrimination. We have non-Sikh trainers and members attending the combat academy, and we run classes that support minority groups in becoming empowered in a safe training environment.
Many of our members communicate in English as a second language, and we have translators to support them during sessions. Members come from diverse communities and speak various East European languages, South Asian languages, and English.
Our trainers have experience working with people from different backgrounds and developing abilities. We offer specialist support to individuals with visual impairments and physical disabilities.
We have stairs and a functional lift to take all participants and their families to the second floor where the club is located.
