Our Charity aims to enrich the lives of children and young people in Thanet and East Kent living with profound, multiple, learning difficulties including physical disabilities, sensory impairments and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder. We provide equipment, recreational and leisure opportunities, resources and support to develop their skills and help them to participate in the community as independent and responsible individuals.
The Charity is closely associated with Foreland Fields SEN School and supports the development of activities, equipment and facilities which are not a statutory requirement for the local education authority to provide. The School caters for 240 pupils aged 3 – 19.
A culture of collaborating with other charities to share best practice and ideas is in place. Past joint projects have included ‘Pupils Voice’ with East Kent Mencap where sessions were run to raise the confidence of young people and know their rights.
Training for the local community also occurs with courses such as Makaton, ASD awareness, Deaf awareness. We proudly trained some Santa’s and Elves in basic Makaton for the local shopping center's Christmas grotto in 2019, allowing more children to be included and experience the magic of a grotto.
We have recently partnered with Inclusive Sport to provide a Saturday Morning Club which will be used as a starting model for joint working with a range of partners to increase opportunities for children and young people to engage in sport and leisure outside of school time.
Over the past year, the Charity has provided funding to install a sensory audio and lighting system to the school's hydro pool, adding a whole new dimension and enjoyment for the students accessing the pool.
