The idea
Our cafe feeds around 250 people per week with around 50kg of donated surplus food. The cafe is run and attended by a diverse range of people from across the community.
We run and host a constant programme of teaching and learning workshops, such as cookery, pottery, carpentry, music, and more. We also hold regular artistic and cultural events: gigs, dance shows, theatre performances, lectures, and debates.
Foodhall provides a space for people to develop skills, knowledge, and relationships.
What we'll deliver
- Add essential kitchen equipment and storage units
- Build bespoke modular furniture and interior elements
- Lime render our straw bale insulation wall
Why it's a great idea
We have been refurbishing our building since the start of our project, succeeding in creating an accessible, inclusive space in the heart of the city centre. However, further work can be done to ensure that Foodhall is accessible to as many people as possible.
Completing the insulation of our wall will provide much-needed acoustic and thermal insulation to our space, making Foodhall much more hospitable to many who attend the cafe, as well as widening the scope of events we can put on.
Improving our kitchen equipment is essential to the development of the project. Further improvements to our cooking facilities and kitchen storage will make the running of the cafe easier and safer. It will also allow us to hire out the kitchen to community groups, addressing the need for accessible cooking facilities in the city.
Our interior furnishings are highly praised in awards we've won. Designed and made in-house, from donated and salvaged materials, to meed our user's needs. Let's build more.
Steps to get it done

We really appreciate all the help we can get to help sustain the project and to continue to improve the daily lives of many people.
