Supporting Culture and Sport in Lancashire.
By Colne BID
We are doing a trial this year on a small number of Flower pot displays across the town. We are inviting the schools, community groups and public to create for public areas
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We would like to engage with local community organisations, local schools, and local charities to create structures out of flower pots to display across the town centre. We will host a series of workshops with a local artist, who will help people create characters, animals or even people out of old, plastic flower pots and give them a new purpose for the town centre displays. Our workshops will be available via Arts for Wellbeing - Pendle and Building Bridges Community groups and hosted across various venues across the town centre. The Flower pots displays will be installed in July 2024 and taken down in September 2024, so will be available for people to view throughout the entire summer. If we can engage enough community groups, we would like to form a trail for families to take part in and take photo's and enter a competition for creativity with photos.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We feel there are many benefits to this project: - Working with people who suffer with social isolation can help them forge new friendships and connections through the workshops - Create a sense of pride amongst the community seeing their work on display in the town - Create a sense of achievement for the school children who take part when their work is displayed across the town - The town centre will look wonderful once the artwork is installed and will guarantee a smile on every face that sees them. - Increase in footfall and new visitors to the town to take part in the small trail map.
Steps to get it done:
We are trialling this project this year with 4 small displays with the Arts for Wellbeing Team and Colne Open Door. The aim is to grow the festival year on year, so we aim to create 20 in 2024, then in 2025 we would like to grow it again and double the number of displays. We would like to feature them in the shop windows across the town for people to enjoy.
