We are over half-way to reaching our target! Thank you to everyone who has pledged so far and a special thank you to Noyces Funfair and Yasmin Parnham. They are part of the community of show people who have made Feltham their home for over 100 years. The Friends of Feltham Green will be working closely with local charity, Hounslow Men’s Shed, to design, build and install our new oak planters. Men’s Sheds (or Sheds) are similar to garden sheds – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practice skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that garden sheds and their activities are often solitary in nature while Men’s Sheds are the opposite. They’re about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. Sheds are whatever the members (or Shedders as they are often called) want them to be. Although labelled sheds, they often aren’t sheds at all. They can be empty offices, portable cabins, warehouses or garages. Hounslow Men’s Shed is very unusual – it is based in a disused nineteenth-century chapel in Isleworth Cemetery, which the Shed’s members have rescued, renovated and then converted into an engineering and craft workshop. Whilst their main interest is in old transport, they seem to be able to turn their hands at anything and we very much look forward to working with them. We can’t wait to get started on helping Feltham Green flourish!
