The idea
If Glastonbury , Reading , Leeds and the Isle of Wight can pull off Festivals of all shapes and sizes , so can smaller communities like Fleetwood , located on the Fylde Coast of LANCASHIRE.
Held in the grounds of Flakefleet Primary School , officially voted happiest school in the UK , Britain's Got Talent (BGT) finalist , UK Christmas number 1 entry and a school which "Dares to Dream" FlakeFest 2024 is coming back bigger and better.
The festival will include a food and refreshment offering hosted by the newly opened not for profit community coffee shop STRIVE.
Entertainers , children's performances , local bands and headliners will take the main stage by storm , culminating in a community fireworks event later in the evening.
The culture and heritage of FLEETWOOD will also be screened through the FLEETWOOD VOICE film , local people telling their stories of past present and future , composed and performed by musicians of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
What we'll deliver
- Bring the community together
- Create a platform for local talent in a Festival setting
- Showcase the past present and future of the town through music and culture
- Offer free tickets through local charity groups (ie foodbank)
Why it's a great idea
This event will take place slap bang in the middle of a densely populated residential area and within walking distance for the majority of town. It is also accessible through the tram service running right along the Fylde coast from Fleetwood to Blackpool.
Fleetwood greatest asset is its people and its community spirit .
Some of the statistics are not great reading but the town is not defined by its statistics :
- 37% of households have no access to a car compared to 22% England average
-26% of children are living in poverty compared to 17% England average
- 26% of people have a limiting long term illness compared to 185 England Average
Local talent , local bands , arts , music and culture bring out the best in what the town has to offer . Making this Festival accessible to all ,putting on a Festival for some people who may never get the chance, bringing people together and inspiring the community for the future are some of our main priorities. We #Dare To Dream
Steps to get it done
- Festival to take place before the end of August 2024
FlakeFest 2019 was special for Fleetwood . The pandemic changed everything resulting in communities retracting and missing out on the follow up festivals which we wanted to deliver to the town.
We want FlakeFest 2024 to be bigger and better and through this funding page we will deliver our dream for the residents of the town , bringing local talent together through music and culture.
Yes , we do Dare to Dream and for one night only we will create our very own Glastonbury , Reading and Leeds but without the mass clean up operation of empty tents afterwards !
