The idea
We will be creating an all-weather outdoor zone on the grounds of Flag Lane Baths where young people, children, and families can enjoy a safe environment to learn new skills, socialise, and spend time in the great outdoors! The land around the Baths will be used to run an exciting variety of sports and activities including parkour, volleyball, netball, basketball, and outdoor performances. The outdoor space will also be used by local gardening groups, including projects to decrease isolation for the elderly residents of Crewe. On top of all this, it's great for the environment!
In this outdoor zone, we will be permanently displaying innovative art created by children in local schools during workshops run by professional artist Jack Doyle. The art will be installed on part of the site which currently attracts vandalism, discouraging repeat offences. It will also be a fantastic chance for local young people to make their mark in the town, contributing to a space of real civic pride.
What we'll deliver
- Engage children at local primary schools in at least 2 hands-on art workshops
- Develop and create a permanent, community-inspired art installation for Flag Lane Baths based on these workshops
- Install attractive landscaping outside Flag Lane baths
- Create an Outdoor Zone that can be used by children and young people of all ages for sports and activities
Why it's a great idea
By running a series of activities for young people and children, we will increase physical health as well as having a positive impact on mental wellbeing. Having a designated and accessible space for young people to meet together will also decrease the amount of time they spend on the streets and subsequently decrease the levels of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in Crewe. This will make our town safer for everyone and contribute to the overall regeneration of the local area.
By engaging local children in a community art project we will increase their creativity and encourage peer relationships to grow. Letting local children put their own stamp on Flag Lane Baths will continue the building's legacy of civic pride and once again situate it as a community hub for the people of Crewe.
We know that you, our community, are keen to see Flag Lane Baths restored to its former place in our town. By making good use of the outdoor space, we will not only restore but also rejuvenate!
