The outcome of a Fishtoft Rural Isolation Survey saw the need to provide a community space where the elderly & lonely can meet for friendship and activities for social well- being and mental health
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Our aim is to provide a welcoming space where anyone in the Fishtoft community can come for free, for mutual companionship & social well-being. We have seen how the lonely & elderly thrive when enjoying the company of others. It's an opportunity for them to leave the house, meet friends and neighbours, make new friends & try their hand at the various activities on offer. We provide tea, coffee and cakes. We also provide materials and encourage participation in creating projects to enhance the local environment. This gives them a sense of pride in their local community and in their own achievement in making something worthwhile. We aim to make it a happy place where people can relax in a caring environment. We aim to create a cohesive community, where the community can feel safe to enjoy their local environment

Why it's a great idea:
Fishtoft is a large rural community with a meagre public transport system which makes it difficult for some people to get out and meet others. These get togethers provide a lifeline for those who live alone or feel lonely. Those who have lost loved ones can find someone with a sympathetic ear & friendship. Because the events are free there is no discrimination and anyone can attend as often as they wish. There is no pressure to involve themselves in any activity, though most have found they thoroughly enjoy trying out a new skill. We are building a caring and compassionate community spirit where everyone shares and cares. Everyone comes together to help run the group & make new members welcome. Those who live alone can improve their mental health and social wellbeing by interacting with others & finding common interests. With funding we can provide luncheon outings and trips to places of interest, giving those who lack transport the opportunity to travel further afield.

VolunteerFishtoft400 Community Group is a 'Friendship Group'
We hire two different venues on two different days of the week and invite anyone in the local community to come along and meet other people for friendship and activities and social wellbeing.
Fishtoft is a rural community with a limited public transport system. As a result there are people in the community who feel lonely and isolated and rarely go out, particularly if they have limited mobility.
Covid also inhibited socialising and left many people feeling lonely and isolated.
The events are FREE and open to anyone from the local community and friends. This means people can come along as often as they wish with no cost to them.
We provide FREE teas, coffees and cakes and make sure everyone receives a warm welcome
We supply various art materials, games and books etc. We encourage people to share their hobbies with others, which gets them mixing and chatting.
We have organised a day trip out with lunch and further with trips are planned. As we have no funds for hiring transport this means that some people who have limited mobility will struggle to come on these outings.
We have built good working relationships with our local Boston Borough Council who have helped us to access funding in order that we can offer these events free. They have also helped with advertising the events.
We advertise via various sites on Facebook (Fishtoft400, Fishtoft Ward, Keeping Fishtoft Safe and our own personal F/B pages), posters and flyers. We also use the Boston Bulletin.
