More about our impact
The environment
As part of our Love Cricket initiative, we have collected pre-loved cricket uniform and equipment that we have cleaned and repurposed. The gear is then handed out to those young people joining local cricket clubs. The gear is also used when playing matches against more established teams, so that our young people enter the field on equal playing grounds.
The local economy
We have supported the local economy of the areas we work in through venue hire and out sourcing catering for events. We have established positive working relationships with a number of leisure centres and community spaces in the county as we expand the reach of our programmes. Through our programmes we have directed community partners and participants to local cricket clubs and so support their growth too.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We have onboarded new coaches for the First Change Programme and made extensive use of the Kent Cricket Community coaches, providing them with an additional job opportunity through our projects. We have encouraged English Skills development through our sessions and helped to teach the young people cricketing terms as well as to score (which can be an exercise in mathematical skill) in English.
Arts, culture & heritage
With our connection to the Kent Cricket we have a good relationship with the Kent Cricket Heritage Trust who maintain and support the publication of the history of Kent Cricketers. At one of our Love Cricket events where we supplied coaching at the Kent cricket grounds the Heritage Trust took the young people on a tour of the grounds and spoke about the history of the grounds and players.
Activity, health and leisure
We have promoted activity and health throughout our programmes by adjusting the game play to suit all abilities and skills levels. For example, some of our girls who had never played before found it easier to learn using a soft ball and therefore were encouraged to participant at their own pace. As cricket is a popular sport among our young people, it can comfort them by providing them the opportunity to participant in a familiar activity. As such, we aim to support the mental, as well as the physical, wellbeing of our participants
