The idea
A day of cycling to incorporate a mass participation ride, which is self financing plus a funding dependent Elite Cycle race for the best 125 riders in the UK.
This is a mix of elite sport - community involvement - raising the profile of Essex as a place for sport, tourism and business.
It is planned to run this event on 23rd April - St Georges Day, 2019. Part of the date choice being to bring attention to the lack of an English Holiday.
Essex has successfully hosted the Olympics, Tour de France, the Tour of Britain and Women's Tour - but does not have its own major bike race. In fact the South East and indeed Southern England do not have a major bike race to call its own.
What we'll deliver
- Great spectacle
- Community involvement
- Encourage a healthy lifestyle
- Encourage sustainable transport
- Promote Essex as a tourism venue
- A typical weekend would bring in £400k plus in immediate tourism
- Promote Essex as an area to do business
- A spin-of is the support of the men's healthcare charity - CHAPS, with publicity and a day of health checks.
Why it's a great idea
This project would address this and create a feel good factor that the area will be proud to associate with.
I have obtained the moral support of the five local councils involved.
Active Essex, welcomes sporting events that attract elite sportsmen and women to act as an opportunity to inspire the residents of Essex to be more physical active.
Chelmsford City Council supports the running of professional and well organised events that aim to promote the sport of cycling and encourage people to be more active.
Maldon D.C We’d love to see a prestigious cycling event pass through the district.
Braintree D.C.B.D.C would continue to support the Essex Trophy passing through its district
Greg Sambridge, 1 Life Saffron Walden.I am happy to support
Fabrizio Ferrari, Epping Forest D.C.. We would be happy to promote the race with you
Steps to get it done
