Helsby Community Sports Club are a Community Amateur Sports Club providing sport, recreation and leisure opportunitites to people of all ages and ability in the rural community of Helsby, Frodsham and the surrounding rural villages. We originated as the Sports & Social Club of the former BICC factory in the village and are home to resident Football, Rugby, Running, Tennis, Bowls, Snooker and Darts clubs with a growing membership of approx. 1,000 people. Following the Covid-19 pandemic we opened our doors in a new, £4.5m state of the art clubhouse, which boasts a 3G pitch, complete with shock-pad (to enable contact rugby to be played on it), four full-size floodlit tennis courts, two artificial bowling greens plus a clubhouse with multiple changing rooms, function rooms and bar. We operate almost exclusively on a volunteer basis to serve our local community.
Our new clubhouse was the culmination of a project that ran for more than 15 years and whilst it has given our resident sports clubs a fantastic boost - junior participation has risen exponentially in the last four years - the economic climate and in particular the downturn in the hospitality industry has presented the club's volunteers with a tremendous challenge over this same period, as we have sought to cut costs and grow revenues in order to improve our sustainability.
Our energy efficiency programme forms part of cost-savings measures to reduce our overheads. We have already completed on a project to install solar panels on the clubhouse roof, which has significantly reduced the club's energy bill and we have secured the final 30% of funding required to carry out a £26k project to convert the floodlights on the club's Football/Rugby pitch from halogen to LED.
