Wellness in the Wild is run by Claire. She is a primary school teacher, forest school trainee and home cook; her passion is nature, outdoor adventures and looking after the wellbeing of herself and others. Claire has an innate desire to help and support others.
The aim with this project is to motivate and support local people in the community of Northwich to cook and eat fresh, healthy, home cooked meals which are budget, body and planet friendly.
Claire has spent time living and working abroad in Italy and Malaysia and has loved observing local communities and their rituals around food. She enjoyed seeing in both places how locals enjoy preparing, cooking and eating food outdoors.
Claire now wants the outdoor cooking sessions she leads to encourage healthier eating habits, helping attendees make more informed dietary choices. These sessions will also highlight the environmental impact of food consumption, particularly the effects of ultra-processed foods on both health and the planet.
With the current climate crisis, Claire firmly believes more people should switch to a veggie, whole food diet, at least for part of the week. Taking part in vegetarian outdoor cookery classes; teaching children and parents healthier and more sustainable eating habits is invaluable in a time when the consumption of ultra processed food is at an all time high.
The opportunity for intergenerational and inclusive outdoor events will also create chances for people to meet, share experiences and skills, build social connections; reducing isolation within the local community.
