Earby Events Group is a voluntary group, made up of people from all different backgrounds who are committed to organising and delivering three affordable family friendly events for the local community this year, along with fun, accessible workshops in the run up to each event. Earby Medieval Mayhem is the 1st event in our programme for 2025 and will be held on Sunday May 11th on 'The Green' in the heart of the town. Designed to build on the success of our medieval event last year, Earby Medieval Mayhem will provide artistic and cultural activities for the local community (plant dyeing workshops, falconry, medieval re-enactment, arts/crafts stalls and childrens craft areas, along with related period games) whilst looking to build sustainable partnerships with local businesses and other community groups. This year, our events are focused on further developing on our existing infrastructure and equipment along with showcasing and supporting a diverse and vibrant group of creatives.

What we'll deliver:

  • Red Wyvern Society - 15th Century Re-enactment Group
  • Falconry Display
  • Maypole & Dancers
  • Folk Musicians
  • Plant Dyeing workshops & Childrens Medieval Crafts
  • Hog Roast
  • Soft Archery
  • Clear effective advertising of the Event
  • Local Craft Stalls

Why it's a great idea:

Earby Medieval Mayhem is about bringing the local community together, and learning together through fun activities, whilst improving mental wellbeing, and getting families and individuals of all ages outside, enjoying their town, and engaging with each other. As well as strengthening the community, and providing accessible activities to locals, who may not be able to travel to events in other towns, our annual events also bring in visitors from neighbouring towns, and much further afield. Highlighting local businesses and community groups, and hopefully helping to boost the economy. Alongside the main event, we will be running plant dyeing workshops, in the run up, giving people in the community a chance to try out natural dyeing and the hand dyeing process and encourage new skills and creativity. We have found most people who attend creative workshops, request more workshops to be available, for all ages. On the day we will also be providing medieval crafts.

Steps to get it done:

  • Buying the gazebo
  • Booking the folk dancers and musicians
  • Booking the static falconry display
  • Booking Hog Roast
  • Arranging and purchasing all items for Workshops
  • Creating advertising, ordering banners/posters
  • Logs, bunting, etc

Earby Events Group is a voluntary group which was set up in Autumn 2022. The group is made up of a small no. of members, many who are involved in other volunteering roles, whilst also working full time in most cases. We have delivered six events since the group was founded, which demonstrates the capability, strengths and commitment we have in this area: - 2022 - Christmas Event 2023 - Spring Event, Christmas Play 2024 - Re-enactment Event (War of the Roses), Dragon Day, Christmas Light Switch-On Please have a look through the gallery to see how imaginative and creative the people of Earby are, and how well received events are. With Pendle coming in as one of the worst Boroughs in the UK for child poverty, we are determined to keep providing inspiring family events for free, or as near to free as possible for many years to come, providing a little magic for everyone!
