My name is Poonam and I’m a writer and sociologist. When I’m not writing and doing all things that are ‘Sociology’, I love helping people rediscover their inner creativity through wellbeing workshops.
Joseph Beuys said, “Every human being is an artist.” Sometimes, though, I feel it is easy to forget this; life gets in the way or we find ourselves being busy. My focus on wellbeing is a friendly reminder of the immense joy we can feel when we give ourselves the time to play, explore, experiment, and unleash our creativity.
Since May 2021, I have been facilitating writing for wellbeing workshops at the OPEN Arts Centre in Ealing Broadway as part of the Centre’s ‘Sunday Self-Care Series’. Providing a creative space for others to express themselves is important; as I believe that every one of us has a story to tell, each being unique and different from each other. Equally importantly, is that we are given safe and supportive spaces to enable our creativity to thrive.
I’m equally passionate about injecting creativity in classrooms and lecture halls; and have a proven track record of delivering innovative, engaging and inclusive education. I have and continue to teach Sociology and Criminology across universities in and around London and I was the only woman in my Law Department to be nominated as Lecturer of the Year (2018). I am an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of International Politics at City, University of London.
Among other things, I enjoy reading, swimming, music, travelling, cinema, and art exhibitions. I love people watching and taking random pictures when out and about in London as evident on my Twitter feed where you can find me @W0RKINGWARRI0R
