An exciting project to establish an escape room at the charity owned Chantry Centre, using innovative gameplay to commemorate the 100-year legacy of the R A Lister Recreation & Social Club and its impact on Dursley. The initiative focuses on uniting the community by creating an interactive space that both celebrates local history and fosters skills development, knowledge application, and strong intergenerational connections. With collaborative efforts in designing, building, and promoting the escape room, participants can access opportunities for work experience, volunteering, and social engagement to combat loneliness. The resultant escape room will be a local attraction which strengthens community ties, boosts local economic activity (including supporting the Chantry Centre), and showcases Dursley's offerings to visitors and residents alike.

What we'll deliver:

  • A new escape room
  • Social activity provision in the town
  • Support for local economy

Why it's a great idea:

- Brings innovative entertainment to the town, encouraging creative problem-solving and teamwork among participants. - Fosters intergenerational collaboration, strengthening bonds and understanding within the community. - Provides a platform for skill-building, work experience, and volunteer opportunities, particularly benefiting younger and older demographics. -Supports the financial sustainability of The Chantry Centre, a key local community hub - Boosts Dursley's visibility and attractiveness as a tourist destination by combining history with unique interactive gameplay. - Addresses social isolation by creating a space for engagement and interaction, improving overall wellbeing.

Steps to get it done:

  • Concept Development - Define theme, storyline, heritage research, objective of game, player experience
  • Game Design - puzzles, clues, and game flow, difficulty and time limits, plan reset procedures and safety protocols
  • Location & Layout - assess space requirements, draft room layout, technical needs, accessibility, compliance
  • Set Construction - Build physical structures, props, decor, lighting, sound, test, ensure safety of all elements
  • Technology Integration- Implement control systems, sensors, and timers, test all aspects of game
  • Staffing & Training - Hire game masters, train team on game flow, customer service, and emergency procedures
  • Marketing & Pre-Launch - update website, booking system, social media, local outreach campaigns, host tests, feedback
  • Grand Opening - Finalize operations, customer experience, celebrate launch, begin regular operation, monitor performance
