Help us upgrade and repair the outdoor nets (practice facilities) at Durham City Cricket Club. It will make them safe for our growing membership, particularly of juniors, to practice their skills.
Durham City is a Cricket Club with a long history. The last year has seen much growth in the club’s junior membership, a new Girls section 10 children representing the County age group teams, and senior teams with ambition to obtain promotion to the top tier of amateur cricket in the North East. To realise our vision, we need safe and state of the art outdoor practice facilities (nets). Nets are places where senior teams can practice and hone their skills during the week, but are also where our youngsters, the future star players of the club learn and develop their skills under guidance of coaches. However, the environment must be safe for this, and the current outdoor nets are in urgent need of repair and refurbishment to make them a safe place for cricket practice for all ages. Having a state of the art practice facility will allow the club’s players to enjoy their practice in a safe environment, whilst developing and honing their skills in line with our core values.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The project will have wider ranging benefits to all sections of the club: Senior Cricket, Junior Cricket and Girls Cricket. It will provide a safe facility where cricket skills can be learnt, practiced and refined. Through our current work, we will be able to inspire the next generation of cricketers to go on and represent their club, county and country. In 2019, we introduced 128 young people to playing cricket through the ECB All Stars programme, whilst 25 players began to play in our Girls’ section. As the children attending these get older, and their skills develop more, they will need appropriate facilities to practice in safely. Nets provide such a place. The nets are also used by Durham University to supplement the outdoor practice facilities for their 25 College teams. This project will cost £2,500 and we have currently raised £400 towards and aim to raise at least a further £200 through crowdfunding towards this total (whilst normal fund raising activities are not available).
