The Ramgarhia Sports and Social Club is a charity organisation run by volunteers from the local community in and around Southall. Our aim is to promote better health and wellbeing through participation in sports and social activities. Our membership and the sports training opportunities we organise are open to all without discrimination and are run on a weekly basis throughout the year.
RSSC provides the following:
- 2 weekly Yoga sessions currently with an average attendance of 40, for the elderly aged 60+
- A range of sports programmes
- Hockey: Weekly 2 hour hockey training sessions on Tuesdays (across 3 age ranges: 5-16, 17-50 & 50+). 2 Teams play in the MBBO League affiliated to England Hockey
- Football: Weekly sessions involving youth between the ages of 15 and 17
- Cricket: Played seasonally by one team across age range 15-50 years
- Badminton: Weekly sessions for 16+ years age range
- Squash: Weekly session for 16+ years age range
- Karate: Weekly sessions across a wide age range, starting at 7 years
Some of these activities were initiated as far back as 1974 and have been running with continued success. We also host an annual 2-day sports tournament during which we run tournaments for badminton, football, hockey, karate and squash. Named after an historic community champion of sport and wellbeing, the Jassa Singh Ramgarhia annual tournament has been run for 37 years with success and great feedback from all who have participated. It is accessible to all communities, all age bands and abilities, and is another way in which RSSC promotes social cohesion within the community as well as the uptake of sports.
