Longridge School of Samba is a not-for-profit, constituted community organisation that depends on a combination of donations from event organisers, weekly member fees, and support from Longridge High School, which generously provides us with space for our sessions. At present, the group relies on instruments owned by our Creative Director, Steve Brown. These instruments are now over 20 years old and are increasingly prone to damage and deterioration due to their age and extensive use. To continue delivering high-quality performances and to ensure the sustainability of our group, we urgently need to replace this aging equipment. Investment is essential not only to maintain our current activities but also to expand our membership, allowing more Ribble Valley residents to access and benefit from this valuable cultural and community resource.

What we'll deliver:

  • Opportunities for the local community to join our growing samba drumming group
  • Fantastic samba performances in from your community samba band
  • A more diverse and interesting local cultural offering

Why it's a great idea:

Longridge School of Samba contributes positively to the rural economy of the Ribble Valley by attracting increased visitor numbers through our participation in local cultural events. Our performances draw audiences from both within and outside the area, supporting local businesses and boosting tourism. We also encourage Ribble Valley residents to engage with cultural activities closer to home, reducing the need for travel to larger towns or cities and thereby helping to lower carbon emissions. The samba school operates with a minimal carbon footprint—many members walk or cycle to rehearsals, and our instruments are primarily acoustic, requiring little to no electricity. The group is highly resource-efficient, relying largely on the expertise of our Creative Director, a Longridge resident, and making use of local facilities. This sustainable approach ensures that we continue to deliver cultural value with minimal environmental impact.

Steps to get it done:

  • We will update our instruments and grow our samba band numbers and performances
