The Friends Group were constituted in 2016, and the membership is made of local people who live in and around Doxford, Farringdon and Silksworth areas. The aim of our Group is to:
- develop and promote the parks by active participation of the local community and local authority in Doxford Park.
- establish and promote links between the group, the city council, voluntary organisations and residents of Sunderland.
- ensure that the wider community is kept informed and able to participate in the development of the parks through a variety of mediums and consultations.
- develop and promote good relations among all members of the community to further the interests of the parks.
- Members shall promote and work towards good relations among all members of the group and community whilst prohibiting any and all conduct which discriminates or harasses on the grounds of race, gender, age, sexuality, disability, and religion.
- help in the development and protection of the parks and to ensure that the facilities, now and in the future, are meeting the needs of local residents and users of the parks.
- ensure that the historical values, wildlife and conservation, of the parks are maintained and improved for the betterment of the parks and those who use them.
- preserve and protect all significant historical features associated with the parks.
- assist in fundraising activities for the betterment of the parks.
- provide a conduit mechanism for all monies raised and spent within the parks.
- preserve and retain the individual parks historical and unique identities.
- increase biodiversity within the park
