The idea
We propose to transform an underused area beside our Scout den in Donnycarney into a vibrant Community Garden and Outdoor Learning Space. The project will include raised planting beds for vegetables and pollinator-friendly plants, a small outdoor seating and learning area, biodiversity features such as insect hotels and native planting, and a rainwater harvesting system to promote sustainability. The space will be used by our Scout group for environmental education and outdoor activities, while also being available to local community groups and families. This project will create a welcoming, green space that promotes wellbeing, inclusion, climate awareness, and community connection in our neighbourhood.
What we'll deliver
- Raised Flower Beds
- Flower Trellis
- Community Bench
- Planters
- Welcome Mural
Why it's a great idea
This project will create a welcoming green space that promotes wellbeing, social connection, and environmental awareness in Donnycarney. It will provide young people with hands-on learning opportunities in biodiversity, food growing, and sustainability, while also offering a shared outdoor space for local community groups and families. The garden will enhance the local environment, support pollinators through native planting, and encourage climate-conscious behaviours such as rainwater harvesting. By transforming an underused area into a vibrant community asset, the project will strengthen inclusion, intergenerational engagement, and pride in our neighbourhood.
