More about our impact

More about our impact

The environment

The environment

We are still working to complete the project which has taken much longer than expected to finish. Environmentally we hope to inspire younger people to see the condition of Chester in the past, choked by the smoke from coal fires, and see the value of what they now have. We aim to take a presentation to schools so that children can see the environmental differences.

The local economy

The local economy

We have already taken a presentation to the Chester Heritage Festival which promotes Chester's rich history and promotes tourism. We aim to continue this in the coming years.

Volunteering, jobs & education

Volunteering, jobs & education

We have appealed for volunteers to assist with this process of digitisation and the ongoing promotion of this wonderful archive. We have had some interest from students at the University, although none have taken up the offer yet. We have a new retirement age volunteer with considerable digital skills who has given a considerable amount of time to the process. Dave had a career in IT and has worked on databases which brings a much needed set of skills to the team.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

We are now at the point of promoting the resorce for display and presetation. A shortlist of potential opportunities has been drawn up and these include: 1. Stoyhouse, a lecture and a short show reel on the main hall screen. 2. Chester Heritage Festival, a walk presentation, then a walk through the same streets looking at how the intervening years has changed the streets. 3. an exhibition in one of the rotating public spaces in the Grosvenor Shopping Arcade or in the Grosvenor Museum. We have discussed with the Cheshire Archives ways that our resource can be conbined with existing image collections which illustrate the history of Chester.

Activity, health and leisure

Activity, health and leisure

Our volunteer photographers have been walking the streets of the city even in recent weeks to collect more images of the ways in which the historic City of Chester is changing. We are looking for more volunteer photographers to join us and gather new images, bringing new ideas and ways of seeing the city.
