Destination Whitnash will support the proposed Whitnash Civic Centre and Library by providing sustainable transport infrastructure such as electric car charging points and covered bicycle stands.
Destination Whitnash will provide improvements for the car park at the proposed Whitnash Civic Centre and Library. It will ensure visitors to the centre can get there using sustainable transport methods and make the most of other local facilities such as the local precinct and sports fields. The site for the new centre neighbours the town’s main shopping area at Acre Close. Whitnash Town Council will provide additional spaces in their construction project, and Destination Whitnash will link the new car park and shops together by providing new directional signage. The project will fund the installation of 2 electric car charge points which will attract electric car drivers to the area and increase footfall to the Civic Centre, library and local shops. We also hope to provide a state of the art bike shelter which will complement the newly constructed building. This shelter will provide assurances to local cyclists using local facilities that their bikes will be kept secure and dry.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Whitnash has a strong local identity and the town has expanded considerably over recent years with extensive areas of new housing development. With the proposed new developments in the Local Plan, the residential population of Whitnash is set to increase. Whitnash Town Council wish to improve the local facilities for the town which is evident from their commitment to the Civic Centre and Library project. Destination Whitnash supports this whilst also promoting green travel and support to the local business environment . The Neighbourhood Plan recognises that the town centre has limited facilities for a town of its size and Destination Whitnash seeks to address this by providing infrastructure to support a growing population. It meets other objectives of the local plan such as promoting walking and cycling and supporting better parking.
Steps to get it done:
In delivering this project, the local community will benefit from an enhanced public area that helps to bring people together and allows local businesses and organisations to be supported. The project will encourage growth within the town centre in an environmentally friendly way.
