Daven's Woodland Restoration

Daven's Woodland Restoration

Daven Primary School By Daven Primary School

To restore Daven's woodland area so that it can be used for outdoor learning and activities by the community.

Congleton Delivery stage

£1,003
pledged of £2,499

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Daven Primary School's field is surrounded by an established woodland but it is not currently in a useable state. During high winds earlier this year several trees fell and the site is no longer safe for use. The woodland floor and pathways have become overgrown and impossible to pass and without expert attention the area will be totally inaccessible. We have had a survey and need to remove the fallen trees, large saplings and undergrowth so that we can access the paths and create useable space for play. We will also buy new equipment (eg. a fire pit and shelter) to use during sessions. Once the woodland is restored regular outdoor learning sessions will be introduced. Sessions like these are proven to benefit mental wellbeing. The Children's Centre (which is on our school site) will also use it for community sessions. Restoring the site will improve our biodivesity. This is a great opportunity to teach future generations about the benefits our woodlands can provide.

What we'll deliver:

  • Clear the woodland floor and remove dead trees
  • purchase new woodland session equipment (fire pit, shelter, seating)

Why it's a great idea:

- It will ensure that the woodland is available for use as a learning tool now and in the future for the school, Children's Centre and other community groups. - it will be used for mental wellbeing support groups - It will improve biodiversity on our site and ensure that the woodland remains a habitat for a wider variety of animals and plants.

Steps to get it done:

  • Completing the groundwork so that area can be accessed
  • setting up the area for woodland sessions (ie putting in fire pit and shelter)
  • Commencing woodland sessions
  • Wider community using the woodland area
