Since 2016, HYPE Merseyside has led successful greenspace revitalisation projects starting with Birkenhead Park and expanding to Central park in Liscard 2022. HYPE's work has transformed many neglected spaces into community hubs that foster engagement, social action, enviornamental stewardship and most importantly provide positve activties for children and young people.
The latest project, Coastal Leisure Park in New Brighton, is the next step in our Vibrant Parks programme. This initiative seeks to revitalise an underused green space, creating a hub where people of all ages can participate in recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and educational programmes. Our vision for Coastal Leisure Park is to develop an accessible, dynamic green space that offers year-round benefits for individuals and families. Activities such as bike hire, repairs, learn-to-ride sessions, footgolf, and a chip and putt golf course will encourage outdoor participation, supporting both physical and mental well-being while fostering stronger community bonds.
A key component of Coastal Leisure Park is its focus on environmental sustainability and conservation. We will create a nature reserve that serves as a habitat for local wildlife, with native plants and flowers to attract birds and other animals, promoting biodiversity. Educational workshops on conservation and sustainability will empower the community with the knowledge to protect and maintain the site. Volunteer opportunities will be available for individuals to contribute to the upkeep of the park, allowing them to gain skills and qualifications in green space management, creating economic value for the local area.
The park will also offer a range of health and well-being activities, including running, walking, and cycling clubs, as well as cross-country, yoga, and outdoor gym sessions. These activities will cater to people of all fitness levels, providing much-needed opportunities for physical exercise in a region that lacks community facilities. Additionally, the park will serve as a training ground for young cyclists, mechanics, and community leaders, offering a pathway for skill-building and potential employment in the green space and cycling organisations.
As a legacy project, Coastal Leisure Park is designed to grow year on year. We will adapt the space to meet the evolving needs of the community and bio-diversity ensuring its long-term sustainability and impact.
