The idea

Dingle is an area entirely within the boundaries of the old Toxteth Park. It is named after Dingle Brook (Dingle meaning a wooded valley). Whilst nationally recognised as an area of serious disadvantage, Dingle is also the most amazingly diverse and cultural community with sons of Dingle including Ringo Starr, Jimmy Tarbuck, Billy Fury and Arthur Askey to name just a few with an abundance of other awesome leaders in music, arts, culture, sports and politics born in other areas around Toxteth Park. Through this project, Team Oasis would like to introduce into our activity centre a beautiful, welcoming meeting place/cafe. Our cafe will be a place of welcome, nourishment, friendship, ideas, community development alongside service to the our isolated and vulnerable. With our easy bohemian and eco theme plus aligning itself to the arts, family and sports facilities within our centre we should expect our Dingle Cultural Hub Cafe to interest friends and neighbours from across Toxteth.

What we'll deliver

  • Create a welcoming nourishing community hub cafe
  • Purchase £10,000 of kitchen eqiuipment and have this installed
  • Deliver a vibrant cafe with culture, arts, sports, family and service at its core
  • Serve the most needy in our community
  • Our cafe will be open 5 days each week from 8.00am till 1.00pm
  • Our cafe will include a breakfast club
  • Our cafe will support pensioners, parent/toddlers
  • Our cafe will be a focal point for community/resident goup meetings

Why it's a great idea

The Dingle Community will truly embrace this new Team Oasis Cafe Hub. Young families on their way to School can enjoy a mini breakfast club. Similarly Parent toddler groups will benefit from this new facility. Breakfast club and toddler group will have their independent space. Local workers will be encouraged to use our cafe. We shall create a cultural and eco friendly ambience. Local artists, historians, musicians and community activists will be encouraged to use this space and explore ideas together. Networking generally across all spheres of neighbourhood, arts, culture and sports will be encouraged..In addition our centre will be a place of service. Families in need, the vulnerable and the isolated of all abilities, circumstances and ethnicities will be supported. Each day any excess food will be distributed for free to the homeless, rough sleepers and isolated. Our centre has a recording studio, film making editing suite and shortly a digital community radio station.

Steps to get it done

  • Purchase £10000 of kitchen equipment
  • Install all new kitchen equipment and fittings
  • Formalise all volunteers
  • Open day for our cafe

This project will ultimately create three part time employed positions. Our Team Oasis Activity Centre has a recording studio, film-making editing suite and shortly will have a digital radio station. Those visiting our cafe will have access to this space and hopefully build a steadfast relationship with Team Oasis creating sustainable projects. This project should also identify lots of skilled experienced people to engage with and support the developement of Team Oasis projects into the future
