Kith ‘n’ Kin are a small, Tonbridge based organisation that supports families whose children present with distressed behaviours and behaviours of concern such as violence and aggression, self harm and emotion based school avoidance. We support parents and carers to rebuild connection and relationships with their children and young people by understanding their children’s needs and also building a toolkit of strategies to de-escalate and prioritise the key behaviours and improve family life. A key part of this is through the use of the Non Violent Resistance Therapeutic Parenting Programme.
NVR is an evidence based therapeutic programme for parents and carers that focuses upon rebuilding trust and connection with their child. This free/voluntary donation, 12 week closed group, is a place to:
- Learn how to de-escalate situations by developing strategies to control their own reactions in difficult situations
- Strengthen relationships with their child
- Prioritise the behaviours to address rather than trying to tackle everything at once
- Build a non judgemental support network from other families
- Make time for self care and relaxation
At Kith 'n' Kin we value lived experience and building a connective community with on-going support and reflection. We support and train Parent Mentors whose presence and experience form a core part of the delivery of our programme.
Kith 'n' Kin was founded to meet the growing need for support for families in the local community. This need continues to grow as statutory services struggle to meet need with families feeling isolated and alone. In order for Kith 'n' Kin to continue to meet this growing need we require funding to deliver our groups and support the families who need it most.
