Cricklewood Library
Help us transform an empty space into a vibrant social hub for the community, bringing people together with books, big ideas, learning and fun for all. And coffee.
About the Project Creator
Friends of Cricklewood Library is a residents group that's about to take over 200m2 of raw space and turn it into a library and multifunctional community hub.
Despite the enforced closure of old library in 2011, against the wishes of locals, FOCL kept negotiating, talking and working to get support from the landowners as well as Brent Council, so a library space would be included in any new development. In 2014 planning was granted to build a mixed development with 200m2 of library and community space on the ground floor.
Friends of Cricklewood Library is a CIO (Charitable Interest Organisation) whose objectives are to promote literacy and learning, and to bring the community together.
Cricklewood Library is a small local library in Brent, with some big ideas:
- to keep a place in the heart of the neighbrouhood where anyone can go to meet up, to learn, to share and grow
- to be independent and self-funding by running a small cafe, hiring out rooms
- to improve community life through creative, social and cultural activities
- to improve the work prospects of locals by building skills and confidence
The library is next to Gladstone Park, at 152 Olvie Road, NW2.
