Creative Steps

We want to provide a media suite for the young people of Romford and surrounding areas, offering them fully supported structured six week sessions in the subjects of digital music and film.

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The idea

This will help them raise their aspirations and develop their skills but will also allow the community of young people, the opportunity to produce their own digital music and create a film, mix with their peers, encourage them to visit other shops nearby and thereby encourage business growth. We are in situ in the Quadrant Arcade, Romford, and this Arcade is now part of a regeneration programme for Romford Town Centre. This new project will not only provide a programme for the young people but ultimately encourage shoppers to visit the Arcade. Our media suite will promote the area and generate the community’s curiosity in what we can offer. This Arcade has lost its appeal and consequently its ‘footfall’ too. Other businesses are struggling, and our new media suite will generate interest amongst the local community.

What we'll deliver

  • Deliver an exciting calendar of events in our purpose built multi media suite
  • Deliver our Digital Film making and Music Production curriculums to local residents
  • Encourage the young people to volunteer and help with the Production courses
  • Our courses are Arts Award Accredited and will provide young people with a creative qualification
  • Provide open sessions where young people can work on music and film projects under supervision
  • Work with local artists to display their art work in the media suite

Why it's a great idea

It will bring young people to the area and our work in conjunction with Romford Contemporary Arts will promote the Quadrant Arcade as a place for them to visit

It will encourage them to become more involved in their local community with the courses we will deliver tackling social issues, e.g. racism, bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.

It will bring more foot fall to the Arcade

It will benefit the residents and encourage them to have an interest in music and film

Steps to get it done

  • Deliver presentations to the local community about our project being Arts Award accredited
  • Promote our services on the local radio station Time FM
  • Advertise through social networking sites, schools, and colleges
  • Advise Havering Council of our new project
  • Networking with MyPlace, Havering Youth Service, Romford Contemporary Arts Programme and Quadrant Arcade Services
  • Provide ‘in house’ advertising material for distribution including website

We have self funded £1000 raised for us during our annual charity mud run 'Nuclear Races' in Kelvedon Hatch, Essex

Creative arts are inclusive to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, and therefore facilitate a diverse and accessible environment for all. They are an ideal medium to use when engaging as wide a range of people as possible as most can relate to them.

We are particularly keen to involve young people who are less responsive to conventional education and who display an unwillingness to participate.
