This is a project to collectively design, fund, build and maintain a new common resource – a public garden in New Cross with facilities to support local self-organised activities, events and projects.
The Field is a not-for-profit project based at 385 Queens Road, New Cross, SE London.
The project aims to work with people in New Cross to investigate self-organised, democratic and collective methods for addressing the issues we face in our lives, and creating social change in ways that we control.
We will have 385 Queens Road as our base for the next 5 years.
We want to use this building as a resource, where we can gather the community, tools, materials and knowledge necessary to allow us to act, together, to change our area and our lives.
385 Queens Road is a place that is not controlled by a small group of people who provide for others or for “the community”. The Field’s ethos is self-organisation; we are not a charity or NGO, we are a group of people organising together, in our local area, to try to create a resource that can benefit ourselves and others. If you want to see something happening at The Field, send us an email or come and see us at 385 Queens Road and we’ll try to make it happen together.
We began work at 385 Queens Road, a building which had been derelict for years, in February 2014. We opened our doors in November 2014 and have a 5 year rent-free lease.
