The idea

S.I.S – Strength In Struggles is excited to be moving into The North Range Suite at Whalley Abbey, the first official wellbeing hub for SIS and the only place like it in the area.
SIS has been supporting children and adults in the East Lancashire area with their mental health and wellbeing. We are that organisation that bridges the gap for individuals accessing mental health support using creative activities.

We need help to transform this beautiful building into a place that offers support for both children and adults in the local community.
There will be a number of creative sessions run in the hub:
- Art sessions twice a week for adults
- Art Sessions for SEN
- Mini medics workshops after school and in the holidays which will be run through drama based learning and Art.
- Yoga
- Mindfulness Singing sessions for children - SEN Children

The hub will be a place where people can come and feel safe and be amongst likeminded people and get support through creative sessions.

What we'll deliver

  • 1 years of mental health support for young people and adults through creative activities
  • creative therapies for young people through 'Mini Medics'
  • Alternative therapies for adults i.e Yoga; Soundbaths; Sound Therapy
  • School holiday activities for children - Raising awareness around mental health through drama ad Art
  • Art workshops for young people and adults
  • Mindfulness Singing sessions for children and Adults

Why it's a great idea

- Transform an underused space in the heart of Whalley and in a tranquil environment, into a place where the community can access creative sessions.
- Provide drop in sessions to the community where they can access advice, receive support or just be amongst other people.
- Provide Art Workshops for individuals on a weekly basis
- Provide Mini Medics Workshops in the evenings; weekends and during school holidays. Educating children around mental health and wellbeing through drama and singing sessions.
- Provide alternative therapies for adults and children to manage their mental health symptoms. Therapies such as Yoga; Singing
- Provide peer-to-peer support groups to the community both for adults and children – bringing people together for extra support and to share their own stories.
- Create a dining area with a large table where people come together to share food, stories and experiences
- Provide drop in sessions for people in the community to see what support they need.
