The idea
Jacks Place Care is a much loved community asset & the only Day Care Centre in the area for older adults, adults with a learning disability & adults with mental health issues. We need to purchase a very large table (with chairs and cushions) so our clients can all sit around it comfortably and undertake the huge variety of daily activities we offer (arts & crafts, cooking, baking & eating, table based horticultural activities - e.g. wreath making, pumpkin carving and other seasonal activities.) as well as it being an essential space to gather, meet, engage in conversations, bond, create memories and collaborate with our clients and the new partnership opportunities we are forming with our local community
What we'll deliver
- A high quality day service with a large enough table for all our clients to participate in our many activities
- We can expand our offer to others in our community who need a warm, safe, friendly space
- Host and support community events around our table
Why it's a great idea
The benefits of having a large sturdy table (with chairs & cushions) with space enough for everyone to sit around are enormous for Jacks Place. We undertake so many creative activities (almost daily in winter and also on bad weather days) and need ample space to spread out materials and resources and for everyone to take part. It is also essential for collaboration, meetings with social care staff and our other partners. It will offer flexibility and allow us to undertake other projects (e.g. wreath making, table top planting horticultural activities) and improve our communication overall. It will also enable us to host more community events which will be one of our areas of focus in the future

A large sturdy multi purpose table is not only essential for our day to day business and current offer to our clients, but also for our future plans for growth & collaboration with our community. We have chosen a really sturdy, second hand table as our whole ethos is around sustainability, minimising our impact on the environment and value for money.
The activities we undertake around the table allow us to express our thoughts, emotions and ideas in a nurturing, collaborative way. Some of our clients are non verbal and all the activities we undertake around the table help reduce stress, stimulate cognitive development & have a positive impact on emotional well being & are a brilliant way for our group to bond and communicate & mostly and to have fun!
It is well documented that creative projects boost self confidence, foster more cultural understanding, build communities, lead to personal growth & development & a deeper understanding of individuals potential and abilities.
