The idea
Craft group is a project where we encourage members of the local community to get involved in different crafts from learning to crochet or knit to sewing or doing diamond art pictures. we also encourage people to come to group even if they don't feel like crafting just so that they're around other people, to try and elevate social isolation within our community. one of the biggest things I've noticed since lockdown is community spirit seems to be very very low and I want to try and help bring back a healthy happy environment for people. For them to learn to express themselves in whatever craft or art form they wish to use. I'm hoping that in raising money we can continue to support our current regular users and also encourage more of our local community and residents from around the Chester area to come and join us. we run on a Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. if anyone would like any further information or details please don't hesitate to give me a shout.
What we'll deliver
- Weekly sessions that will last for a minimum of two hours
- A safe and happy environment for people to enjoy
- The opportunity to learn or reconnect with a craft that the individual wishes to do
- Support each individual user to continue attending
- To sign post members to other services should there be a need
- The continuation of dying art forms
- Supporting users to regain the confidence and independence
Why it's a great idea
To continue to support people getting back into there local community's and give them the confidence to try and do new and exciting things. To support those who need it into finding external help and support where needed. But the biggest thing is to create a community where people will support themselves and eachother and for those people to feel valued for who they are.
Steps to get it done
- To buy equipment and projects to do for the Blacon Christmas Market.
- Start setting up an open afternoon where local community and businesses can come and see what we do
We are also in talks with local schools and youth centres to encourage young people to gain new craft skills and maintain old dying craft forms.
