Crafternoon: Creative Wellbeing is a creative initiative bringing communities across Leicestershire together through creative activities, actions and outreach; to provide creative wellbeing support.

Crafternoon: Creative Wellbeing, aims to respond to the our respond to current research and experiences in these local areas surrounding mental health, self care and isolation prevention services, which at present are in high demand. In light of this need we will be working with those who suffer from mental and emotional ill health and people who are socially isolated and are suffering from loneliness within the Leicestershire community. Throughout the course of the project and beyond we aim to improve upon people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing, as well as looking to reduce loneliness, and create a sense of belonging and improve sense of self which in turn will have a greater social impact in the wider community. Furthermore, we will be developing artistic skills and knowledge within the community, building confidence , skill sharing and creativity which we hope to have a lasting affect for individuals across Leicestershire communities.

What we'll deliver:

  • 24 Online Crafternoon sessions
  • 300 Crafternoon Craft Boxes
  • 8 Community Outreach sessions
  • A Collaborative Community Exhibition

Why it's a great idea:

We all have physical health and we all have mental health and the latter in particular is becoming increasing important in our everyday lives and our communities and finding ways to support our mental health and wellbeing is essential for all. Since beginning Crafternoon as a voluntary project in 2018, we have continuously engaged local residents and organisations in conversations around what they feel in needed for them and repeatedly emotional wellbeing and mental health was a key factor within their lives; specifically in relation to the challenges people are experiencing around accessing support that is accessible and inclusive for all. Crafternoon, is a creative, supportive, community driven initiative for people of all ages that encourages people to come together, be creative and explore alternative ways to practice some positive and creative self care to support their mental health and wellbeing. Providing an outlet that inclusive, accessible and welcoming to all.

Steps to get it done:

  • Buy Craft supplies for Crafternoon craft boxes
  • Connect with local organisations and groups to engage with online /outreach sessions
  • Engage with local community venue for outreach sessions
  • Set community exhibition brief with community groups and organisations
  • Begin putting together of craft boxes ( buying craft supplies, boxes, and print materials)
  • Online Crafternoon session begin
  • Begin distribution of craft boxes
  • Invite feedback from participants on online sessions and craft boxes delivered so far
  • Organise outreach sessions and finalise locations
  • Begin outreach sessions and creating art works for the community exhibition
  • Invite feedback from participants on the outreach sessions and the direction of the exhibition
  • Begin to explore exhibition locations for the group exhibition
  • Continue making and distributing of crafternoon boxes
  • Continue online sessions and reflection with the community
  • Complete art works for the community exhibition
  • Discuss with participants how the exhibition could come together and finalise location
  • Exhibition install
