Updates
Greetings Folks! We hope this finds you well through these very difficult times. We have some very exciting news to share with all of you. Cornerstone has landed!! In recent weeks, our contributors and in-kind supporters have been extremely hard at work, bringing all manner of their expertise to the fore in order to install Cornerstone to its excellent public placement in Tanner Street Park, London SE1. Thanks so much to the great team at Southwark Council Parks for the site and to Culture, Highways, Regeneration teams and other colleagues for their help and to the Mayor of London for steadfast support. MSM Surfacing (concrete specialists) first established our concrete foundation. After a successful cure period, PAYE Stonework brought in its expert team of stonemasons to lift, transport and install our Cornerstone community sculpture into the park. We are so thrilled to have had this installed in time for a restful celebratory holiday season and are incredibly grateful for all the effort and support of our huge community of contributors, including all of yourselves. More information will soon be available on our website www.cornerstonesculpture.org.uk. A massive THANK YOU to all of you for your generosity and patience throughout the project. We still have work to do, including installation of our plaque and eventually when things get back to some semblance of ‘normal’ in our world we look forward to a celebratory launch at some time. In the meantime, keep well and stay safe! Hi All, Hope this finds you well coping with the challenges of Covid and our ever changing world. We have some great news to share with everyone... Our project has been granted planning permission by Southwark Council for Tanner Street Park! We are getting there! Watch this space... Enjoy the bank holiday and stay safe. All the best, The Cornerstone Project Team
Greetings Folks, It’s EARTH DAY today folks (well, by the time many of you read this it may have unEarth Day’d itself) but anyway... I learned this rather late today (23 April)... thought I would send this out to everyone and wish you all well through these challenging and strange times. A lot of changes are happening in our world right now... and our Cornerstone community sculpture is also going through its own transition during these strange and challenging times! Believe it or not, we are still getting closer to getting this monument to gatherings, social connectedness, pre-social distancing ways of coming together, creating, being, touching, breathing out loud in public spaces... sounds so distant and historic already. Our planning application is underway... soon to be officially ‘processing’... thank you everybody for your continued support! In the meantime, lets do our best to look out for eachother and remain open minded, even during these ‘closed’ times, and lets also continue to trust and respect eachothers’ questions and curiosities. Each our freedom of expression, and solidarity to respect and love each other simultaneously. EARTH DAY! Whatever that means for you... x
Greetings Folks, A quick message, to wish everyone well through this unprecedented challenging time! Hang in there folks! Continue to be creative, and if you can, reach out to someone during this time, to help them out in anyway, even just check in on someone, to maintain some semblance of connection of community spirit, love, kindness and care through this isolating time which will leave so many of us alone, with our thoughts, feelings, concerns and unmet needs... LAST CALL! New Location for the Cornerstone - tell us what you think Great news! We're moving on to the planning stage of our community project...Let's enjoy this as a solid, tangible testament to our community spirit and mark of collective creativity through such immense adversity. More than ever, the work we have come together to create, gathered, in groups, outside, talking, sharing, touching, working closely, seems all the more profoundly relevant and worthy of celebration in light of the changes we are facing today. If you have any comments, share them on [email protected] or [email protected] (Bermondsey Street London). In the coming days, we will submit a planning application which would normally take approximately 8 weeks to be processed. Although we recognise there may be potential new delays in light of Corona situation, our aim remains to get the Cornerstone installed over the summer period. Keep well, all the best, Austin Emery with Bermondsey Street London
Great news...we’re moving forward! We have our new location placement for the Cornerstone! Following initial discussions and planning, the Parks department have agreed that the best site for Cornerstone is in Tanner street Park, SE1 (steps south of our initial corner location), to be placed within the planted bed next to 4 Tanner Street. It will be very visible from the corner but not on the corner itself, set back along side the building to allow the open space by the corner to remain, considering vistas, tree planting, news bulletin board, flower market etc. If you have any comments do share them on [email protected] or [email protected] (Bermondsey Street London). After this informal consultation, we expect to submit a planning application at the end of the month, and there will be a further formal consultation at that stage. The aim is to get The Cornerstone installed over the summer, all being well. All the best, Austin Emery with Bermondsey Street.London
Hi again folks... Meant to point you to this great little write up about our previous sculpture project creation, The Shared, over on Tyers Estate, just off Bermondsey Street, unveiled in 2014. Greetings Folks, Happy belated new year to you all, hoping the new decade has swept in with positivity and brightness to fill your lives... The Cornerstone is still underway, still progressing, towards it's final installation. As noted in our last update, Cornerstone has a new great location, to be in Tanner Street Park. We are now working closely with the Council to finalise the exact placement within the park, over towards the Bermondsey Street end of the park. Please bear with us folks! There are a lot of hoops to go through along the way, but we are getting there and sooner than later we will installing our community sculpture within the park, for everyone to enjoy onwards to eternity. Thanks so much for your support, patience and understanding. All the best, Austin with Bermondsey Street London
Great news folks! We have lift off - despite some last minute inevitable bureaucratic setbacks with our original placement, the stars are now aligned and we are very close to being in a position to start implementation of the project. Cornerstone now has a new more prominent public location a few meters down the street in Tanner Street Park (just off Bermondsey Street) which has always been the favoured location of most of you. Southwark Parks are onboard with this and we are very excited about this move and will keep you abreast of developments. In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to get in touch directly. We hope and trust this will not affect your support for our project, which remains the same in all other ways. As ever thank you so much for your continued support, patience and understanding. All the best, Austin with Bermondsey Street London
