We will create an environmentally friendly and biodiverse space full of colour and life, a strip of nature between our houses providing a space to breathe, to play, to garden, to learn and to gather safely.
The small group of people involved so far would like to put some planters and hanging baskets out into the back lane, restricting this to the pavements so not to hinder the bin men. We're in contact with the city council and would need take out public liability insurance.
A greener back lane would help with biodiversity and attract wildlife. It could also slow down traffic and make the area a welcoming space for neighbourly get-togethers and for children to play. It would be also be great to have solar powered street lighting that was decorative and functional along the way. We would love, one day soon, to walk along a back lane full of colour and interest, listening to the birds singing, insects buzzing and people enjoying our little urban oasis.
What we'll deliver:
- Making planters for growing flowers, herbs and vegetables
- Planting wildlife friendly trees
- Creating seating areas
- Making the street part of a low traffic neighbourhood
Why it's a great idea:
Our project will enhance the neighbourhood, creating a safe and beautiful place to enjoy nature, meet with friends and neighbours and walk.
Our back lane garden will provide habitats for wildlife such as birds, insects and hedgehogs.
The planting and traffic restrictions will help to reduce traffic noise and improve air quality in our neighbourhood
Steps to get it done:
- 10 trees planted by December 2021
- Planters installed by Easter 2022
- Art workshops completed and art installed by July 2022
