More about our impact
The environment
The community clearing day meant volunteers were able to work together to clear the more overgrown areas of the common land we were hoping to locate the pump track on. This allowed low lying flowers and plants to grow and the location become more accessible. Having a specific report on the ecology of the area has allowed more understanding of the environment and how to protect it in that area
The local economy
Our project and events brings more people to the area and they in turn visit local shops and businesses
Volunteering, jobs & education
Our project has always been run by young people, for young people. It was started by 3 teenagers and since then this has increased to 8 who are now aged from 11-19. They share their skills and teach other young people in a voluntary capacity through skate events and community projects. These skills and opportunities have allowed some of the older young people who volunteer to use this experience on their CVs and have further opportunities as a result. This has included getting work in local skateparks.
Activity, health and leisure
Whilst we have been working towards the final pump track facility the young people who volunteer with the group have been running free skate sessions for local children and any one who wants to attend. These have been very popular and have been run at local skateparks and outside in local community schools. Activities have been free to access and provision of skateboards and scooters has always been there ensuring that nobody is left out. Many people who attended sessions have continued to do so and have taken skating and biking up as a sport in their own time, increasing their skills. Some have even joined us as part of the skate park team! We are not able to say how many people have come along to the new facility as we are still working to get it built, with ongoing challenges that we are confident we will over come.
