Cooking together workshop for people with a learning disability. Fundermental key skill on how to eat more healthily and on a budget. To improve their health and purse strings.
Learning how to cook from scratch. Where to source the cheapest ingredients and learn about different types of cuisine and types of methods. Each individual would have their own work station and would be shown how to cook. They then would be able to take the printed recipe to try the dish at home. Introducing new textures and tastes, as often they do not like or want to try something new. The cooking group will educated them that there is a vast range of dishes that is cheap but tasty. A cooking together workshop will also teach the about hygiene. Food safety and so on. Some individuals may enjoy their new skill and take it further and gain a qualification in food and hygiene and this could bring job opportunities to them.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Weekly cooking together workshop, where each individual will learn how to cook a healthy meal on a budget. This will not only teach them to cook it will support them socially, as many are often isolated. Most individuals with a learning disability do not get an opportunity to cook. They are often provided with a meal and when they go out for a meal they often choose badly.. A cooking together workshop would educate them to choose wisely when out in the community, as well as teach them to cook for themselves, whilst being supported with their caregiver. If there is a safety concerns. Sadly, individuals with a learning disability already have heath issues, such as diabetes, high blood pressure obesity, and so on. Therefore, eating healthier will improve their health. Isolation is one of the main things for anyone that has a learning disability..A weekly group will help them to socialise and make friends whilst learning a key skill.
