Confidance Inclusive Dance Classes!
Support Confidance on their mission to tackle inequality for learning disabled people through high quality inclusive dance classes, delivered in East Kent.
About the Project Creator
Confidance deliver high quality dance work with integrity, creativity and integration at its heart. Working in schools, community settings, and arts venues, we make dance and performance with dancers with learning disabilities. Confidance are based in East Kent, resident at The Wyvern School (Ashford), Whitfield Aspen School (Dover) and the Quarterhouse (Folkestone).
Our practice is person-centred and looks to identify opportunities for learning disabled people by building long-lasting partnerships across sectors. Our work is delivered in three core strands: Education, Community and Professional.
Our core goal is to consolidate our three programmes into one robust pathway for life-long access to dance in East Kent.
Confidance community classes are for learning disabled adults, where we embrace all bodies and all creative offers. The sessions provide a space for personal, physical and creative growth. The classes are joyful and welcoming, fostering individual creativity and collective connection.
ConfiCo is Confidance's professional training company, for dancers with and without learning disabilities. ConfiCo dancers work collaboratively with Jo Frater and Grace Wranosky to create powerful pieces of contemporary dance, which they perform at festivals, theatres, and in schools. Alongside ConfiCo’s training as performers, Confidance work towards developing and articulating dancers’ creative voices through continual exposure to the wider dance world, careful attention to learning preferences, and consultation with our artists about their professional ambitions.
Our education work focuses primarily on deep engagement with partner schools. Through long-term engagement, we can share practice with a wide range of staff and students, allowing us to build a mutually beneficial relationship. This allows us to create high quality dance experiences, as well as building a sustainable model for schools to continue the work independently.
