A unique new community service! Freedom Powerchairs is your local specialist mobility charity making bespoke mobility, aids, and specialist repairs, servicing etc. We propose a mobile workshop using a large horsebox trailer. This can be brought to the client's house, avoiding travel to our static workshops.We/Clients can repair anything they wish. We offer supervision & training. When traveling, everything will be packed inside, using roll cages. Tools & parts bins are mounted onto perforated / louvre panels in roll cages, with toolboxes stacked inside with parts & materials. Different fit outs allow for many uses. Examples are instrument tools; small hand tools; power drills grinders & bits; brazing & soldering; gluing & sealing, woodwork tools; scooter & car tools; sockets & spanners; measuring etc. We can carry 10 such micro-workshops, strapped safely into place by wall tie-bars. Module loan is free to the disabled and at favourable rates to other local community groups.

What we'll deliver:

  • Support the community with workshop solutions
  • Enable engagement of skills where travel is not possible
  • Provide a mobile training resource in mechanical, workdworking and related skills

Why it's a great idea:

It is by the people, for the people, and avoids the need to buy expensive tools for a "one off" job. It is intended to fill the gap beneath local hire services who rent site tools. Trials are very encouraging! The ability to have repairs done at client's homes, so they don't have to be without their powerchair, scooter, etc. Clients can do their craft work, hobbies and own repairs. Community groups can borrow these facilities for training etc. Use can be by us, by the client, or by a community group We will insure, maintain and approve supervision. We take care of supply of materials, parts, and proper waste disposal Multiple units allows for groups and adds variety. Community groups can bring people together for shared activities. This unique resource is an opportunity for the County to lead. We do not know of any other like resource. This complements anything available from local mobility dealers and others, offering flexibility as to place, and place.

Steps to get it done:

  • Establish base
  • Fit out first 3 modules
  • Fit out second 3 modules
  • Refurbish the workshop trailer (we have the base horsebox)
