The idea

To build a modern equipped kitchen with our youth and community centre.
To stock the kitchen with surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill, working with local community larders, Fareshare, Food drop, The cloud etc
To invite families to come together to share recipes, cook together then take home and feed their families.
To invite elders in from local sheltered accommodation to share stories and recipes from their lives with the youth from our community.
To teach our young people healthy easy to cook food, on a budget in a modern kitchen inspiring a love of cooking.

What we'll deliver

  • a spacious modern kitchen
  • multicultural, inter generational cookery projects
  • food stopped from being wasted

Why it's a great idea

young people and adults will be inspired to cook, exploring the options of a career choice.
Different sections of our diverse multi-cultural community will come together and feel valued, like they belong, breaking down barriers.
Elders will have purpose and space to share their life experiences.
Isolation will be reduced, friends will be made.
Young people will be given the chance to shine, build relationships with the community, reducing the sometime negative reputation they get.
Food that would otherwise go to waste will be used, saving the environment, saving money, reducing poverty.

Steps to get it done

  • knocking down a wall and creating the space for the kitchen.
  • getting a kitchen fitted
  • open the kitchen to the community and youth
  • stocking the kitchen with food
  • different communities sharing the space and their recipes
