The exciting way for you to build prosperous and vibrant local areas across the borough of Ealing!
By Direction and Development 4 Youth (DADY)
We provide health activities and advocacy for families and young people on the estates from BAME backgrounds, especially Somalis. DADY aims to enhance the lives of young people and their families.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
At the football training we provide: 1) Participation in sports for young people from age of 5 to 25 (80+ beneficiaries p/wk). 2) Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8pm we offer walks 3) Saturday and Sunday from 2pm to 5pm we offer bike rides. We want to add to this with a new project focusing on walking and cycling. Our aim is to make walking and cycling accessible to all, and to encourage our BAME communities to increase their participation in walking and cycling. This project is open to everyone, regardless of finances, age, background or ability. The scheme supports families and participants of all ages to come together to experience physical and mental well being effects of these activities.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
It was developed as a response to a demand from young people in the area, who felt that there were few activities and opportunities for their personal and social development. The gap has resulted in a high level of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. Young people are in need of good role models and activities that allow them to spend their time in a safe and positive environment. We as a community feel our services & activities will help the residents a lot and will improve young people's achievement in school. We have heard from many of our regular users that without our help and support they are struggling to manage being at home and not working. Many are suffering from poor mental health because of anxieties about their health and the enforced isolation. We know that the pandemic has had a big impact on BAME Communities especially young Somali people and families. This walking & cycling project will allow all participants to interact, reduce isolation & improve confidence.
Steps to get it done:
We knocked on doors, visited local schools and asked parents and young people of what activity is needed in the area. Overwhelmingly, they have spoken and demand for our project is immense. We will be working with our current stakeholders/networks around Ealing to spread through word of mouth as well as through their contacts, and they are going to promote the project through their mail outs to the community. We will also advertise on social media, put up posters around schools, community center's, bike shops, give out leaflets on the streets and estates around the local area, and as the project gets going we will make sure participants spread the word around the community. We will monitor the outcome of this project by informal feedback through conversation, observation &attendance. We will set up agreed milestone and evaluate the project at agreed milestone e.g. monthly basis. Also, we consult and carry out a survey among our service users and target audience.
