Lindengate Mental Health Charity is based on a stunning 5-acre horticultural site in Wendover, (next to the Dobbies Garden Centre) and offers specialized gardening activities to help those over the age of 16 with various mental health needs, through to those who are older with Alzheimer’s, Dementia and memory loss. Our services, known as Social and Therapeutic Horticulture, use the healing power of nature and the outdoors to improve mental wellbeing, boost self-esteem and social inclusion and encourage long-term recovery. We offer organised programs, in a calm managed and safe environment which includes gardening, conservation, horticulture, arts and craft, construction, woodworking and more. We call our service users “Gardeners” and in a little over 5 years, we offer bespoke programmes to over 120 Gardeners per week. Our Social and Therapeutic Horticultural team plan and organise over 150 different and unique activities a week for our Gardeners.
Natural Environment: The richer the environment the better and in 5 years Lindengate has become a habitat rich space where the wild and managed areas of the garden are integrated allowing maximum nurturing benefit for both people and the nature that we are part of.
Community: Everyone needs to feel that they belong and are trusted, valued and safe. Lindengate is a place where this possible and embedded in our ethos is an inclusive and embracing attitude.
Activity: A reason to get out of bed in the morning. At Lindengate we encourage times of reflection and stillness but the activities that are on offer support a major element of someone’s opportunity to recover and/or maintain their wellbeing. Activities include, gardening, conservation, woodworking, art and craft, cooking, heritage crafts, construction and animal therapy.
