The idea

The Bicycle Recycling project is a community-based program that aims to build a strong sense of community belonging and bridge the gap amongst the young people regardless of religion, ethnicity and social background. The project also provides industry standard training in Bicycle Mechanics that is accredited by the Streetwise Group.

The project itself recycles and repairs bicycles that have been donated to us from various sources which include the Metropolitan and British Transport Police. The young people will each work towards repairing the bicycles and once this has been achieved the bicycle itself will either be presented to the young person who as repaired it or donated to charity.

The project will also involve setting up a Dr Bike where people from the local community can bring their bikes along to be serviced or repaired for free.

What we'll deliver

  • Provide a strong community spirit.
  • Provide a sense of pride for the young people taking part
  • Provide real training that the young person can use to either find employment or go into further education.

Why it's a great idea

It helps build a strong community spirit as well as helping the environment. We have run this project in many areas of London and it as helped change lives and prospects of the young people who have taken part.

Many have gone on to starting their own business or have got directly involved with community events .

Steps to get it done

  • 1000 bicycles recycled in a year
