Supporting community-led projects to help your local area recover from the COVID-19 crisis
We wish to create a community oriented arts space in the Royal Docks. This will be open to everyone. We want to launch and manage art events and competitions that engage fully the local community.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
About Us We are a multi-disciplined group of creators, all with the capacity and desire to deliver something of interest and value. Working together in a busy collection of studios in the Beckon / Galleons Reach area of East London, we are a swarm of creative bees bound together in a single artistic hive. Our group includes fashion and textile designers, traditional and contemporary sculptors, photographers, set designers and makers of theatrical puppets, designers of architectural art, creative producers, and painters of all disciplines. We are truly representative of society, of all ages and backgrounds and our body includes everyone from recent graduates through to people with established careers. We want create an artist led gallery and workspace that is fully accessible to the people who live and work in the former docks and surrounding neighbourhoods. Our mission is to make every form of visual and performance art fully accessible to everyone.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
When opportunities to to engage in the arts are presented in this multi faith, multi ethnic community, there is always real and tangible enthusiasm . Unfortunately, the arts are not always especially well represented and engagement levels are generally low. We want to change that. A further goal is to use creative processes as a social 'leveller' to allow greater social integration, for example through shared projects.
Steps to get it done:
We plan to work with The Royal Docks, Newham Council and local communities such as Newham Youth Zone and PEACH.
