The idea
Coedbach Park provides a range of activities in a green area community to enjoy. We have surveyed the people of Pontarddulais who responded and identified that there was an age gap that was not being filled by this popular park and we needed to develop what is available for families and teenagers.
The priority is to provide appropriate equipment for teenagers so they feel engaged and connected in there environment. We need a modern community resource and an outside facility to attract youth groups, Schools and organisations so that teenagers can participate in a meaningful and physical activity in the fresh air.
There have been frequent opportunities where conversations have taken place with teenagers both face to face and using social media and they have told us that they have no space of their own In which to meet and socialise in Pontarddulais.
The peace of equipment is a sign to teenagers of our respect of their needs.

Why it's a great idea
The benefits of this project will meet the beliefs and desires of parents, grandparents and families as asked for in the Bont survey. The project will also create a better environment for the teenagers to meet within a safe and active place which will be welcomed by the community. Our aim is to create a social active safe environment for these young people to use due to limited amount of activities which should be available but sadly are not.
Steps to get it done
- Complete the contract, purchase of equipment and development of base
Concerns have been discussed between teenagers, business and adults over many years including the police. Whilst it will take time for further development alongside this piece of equipment it is a step in the right direction and will be an example of community commitment to an idea and ownership of an outcome wanted by all.
