The local economy

The local economy

The festival scene in Clitheroe is strong nd being able to add another date to the diary strengthens the towns position as a place to visit and be entertained. As we were primarily based at the castle this year we captured both those who planned to visit the festival and those tourists that had decided to have a day out in Clitheroe and were pleasantly surprised to find an art festival and trail to follow.

The festival aims to inspire artists of all ages to pick up a brush or a pen. To show the amateur enthusiasts a clear path of how to get to be a professional artists and to provide workshops and mentoring to help them get there. 12 pieces of work were sold out of the open exhibition with over £1,000 handed out in prizes over the weekend. We were able to pay 8 artists for their time over the weekend to provide workshops and entertainment.

Arts, culture & heritage

Arts, culture & heritage

Our festival showcases all aspects of art and culture, from fine art to film, dance to drama. This year we welcomed local dancer Aimee Williamson to showcase her performance of Selkie, the first time she had been able to perform it in her home town and the audience of over 100 people in the courtyard of the castle will attest to its excellence.

The festival is a trail supported by a map and encourages visitors to walk from venue to venue. Without realising they clock up the steps!
