The idea
We will establish a dedicated CleanupUK Hub in Enfield Town, acting as a visible and accessible base for equipment, volunteer coordination and partnership‑led environmental improvements.
Activities will focus on:
Enfield Town Centre and Town Park
The New River corridor
Local heritage areas such as St Andrew’s Church and graveyard.
The need:
Enfield Town experiences persistent litter hotspots, reduced footfall, and pressure on cleansing services. Community appetite for action is strong, but coordination and a central base are missing. A hub brings structure, visibility and shared responsibility.
Who will benefit:
Local residents of all ages
Schools, Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh participants
Older residents via Age UK
Local businesses and charities
Visitors using parks and riverside spaces
Danielle, our local Champion will:
Create a central hub with free equipment
Run weekly community litter‑picks
Support businesses to take responsibility
Provide inclusive, accessible volunteering.
What we'll deliver
- 52 litter picks per annum
- 15 sets of free litter picking equipment
- A summer environmental awareness campaign
Why it's a great idea
A visibly cleaner, safer and more welcoming Enfield town centre
Reduced antisocial behaviour through pride‑led stewardship
Stronger community cohesion and intergenerational engagement
Improved wellbeing through active, social volunteering
Enhanced biodiversity and enjoyment of green and blue spaces
“Litter picking creates a sense of shared responsibility. When people come together to care for a space, even just for an hour, it breaks down barriers. Strangers become neighbours, and neighbours become teammates. It’s not just about picking up rubbish, it’s about showing up, being visible, and starting conversations that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.”
