Westhive empowers the community to create a thriving, inclusive and better connected place
By Churchill & Sarsden Village Hall
Built in 1870 our village hall is now showing its age and needs renovating to make it fit for the future. In particular the electrical, heating and hot water system needs replacing.
Our Village Hall is a central hub in our rural Cotswold community and has been at the heart of village life for generations. However, with increasing usage and the passage of time the hall now requires essential repairs and upgrades to maintain safety, improve energy efficiency, and ensure it remains a welcoming space for everyone. To begin with we need to update the electrical wiring, replace the outdated night storage heaters with efficient green energy heaters and upgrade the hot water system. Without refurbishment the hall will fall into disrepair and become unusable. The hall also serves as the village archive, storing many old and important documents regarding the village history, and the current damp is degrading the archive material.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Refurbishing the village hall will greatly enhance the well-being and cohesion of our community, for both old and young and those socially isolated in a rural community. It will provide an updated space for social activities, community events, family parties, educational workshops, exercise classes and local support groups, such as community cafe, table tennis, crafting group, guides, free lift service, and cricket club. This will promote inclusivity, reduce isolation, and strengthen village life for current and future generations. It will reduce the energy footprint of the village hall, helping the environment. It will provide a dry and safe, damp free, storage space for the village archive for the future.

Churchill's village hall is a beautiful and historic building and an essential hub for the community. But now it is over 150 years old, it is essential that we take steps to improve its green credentials, not only for the sake of the planet, but also to ensure that the hall is financially sustainable with much lower energy bills. Attending parish council meetings in the winter, with keeping outdoor coats on being the only comfortable option, has brought it home to me how essential the modernisations are. I fully support all efforts being made to improve the energy efficiency of this crucial building. Cllr Nigel Ridpath Chadlington & Churchill ward, West Oxfordshire District Council
