Chorley Heritage Centre Group was founded twelve years ago with the main aim of establishing a heritage centre in this important central Lancashire town. This would serve as a meeting place, a hub for distributing a new town trail and an exhibition room.
The centre has not yet materialised but we have done much to preserve the town's history and increase awareness of its rich heritage. Activities have included: holding Chorley's first heritage fair, hosting a national Communiry Archive Groups conference, saving important collectiions from the skip, hosting American visitors studying sites associated with Myles Standish, and mounting ten exhibitions in temporary centres.
The Windrush Exhibition will be in co-operation with Chorley Library one of our cross community partners.
We are a non-profit making voluntary association led by a small committee of enthusiasts and supported by some sixty members. We are keen to increase active membership and to attract participation from a younger and wider community than hitherto.
