The idea

The Children's Business Fair (CBF) gives the next generation the opportunity to develop a business, launch in the real world and make their own money.

Young entrepreneurs (aged 7-17), develop a brand, build a product or service, create a marketing strategy and then open for business at our one-day marketplace events.

Regular events throughout the year give participants the authentic entrepreneurial 'build-measure-learn' experience. They launch, make mistakes, reflect on them - and relaunch at the next event with lessons learned.

This is real learning for the real world. Encouraged by the promise of profits, entrepreneurs also build skills critical to the future of work - grit and resilience, problem-solving, creativity and communication.

Guildford hosted three CBF events in 2022, where 223 local young entrepreneurs launched 144 businesses.

The funds raised will help support the event through 2023 and into 2024 - and help even more young people build, sell and learn.

What we'll deliver

  • We are creating three events designed to transform the lives of 200+ local young entrepreneurs (aged 7-17)
  • Events bring colour, community and commerce to the centre of Guildford
  • Engaging local communities, local schools, families and customers

Why it's a great idea

The CBF's two key benefits are:

1) A celebration of Guildford's next generation
2) A celebration of Guildford High Street

The CBF transforms the lives of participants, setting them up with skills for life, not just exams. Parents agree. Our recent Parent Survey found that 83% of respondents strongly felt that the CBF had helped grow their children's confidence. 76% thought that the experience had made their children grittier and better communicators.

Bringing colour, community and commerce to local communities, the CBF also transforms the town centres and high streets where the events are held. Regular CBF events, complete with buzz, energy and increased footfall, building a groundswell of positivity and pride of place.

Steps to get it done

  • In 2023/4, recruit 150+ local young entrepreneurs to launch their own businesses
  • Ensuring that the CBF is open and available to all, no matter their financial background
